Welcome to Riley’s story! I plan on sharing our ups, downs, adventures, and more! Any advice is greatly appreciated as I am new to the Tripawd world.
Riley is a 4 month old German Shepherd mix. We don’t know how he lost his front leg as he was transferred from a rescue in another state. When the local shelter called me about him I couldn’t resist giving him a home. (I have taken in lots of animals that need a little extra care over the years.)
I wasn’t expecting little Riley to be such a trouble maker when I first brought him home! He was very shy and nervous around men (maybe has to do with the loss of his leg?) Riley smelled every inch of my yard and then it was time to come inside. I have 3 steps onto my back deck I wasn’t sure he could handle but it was worth a shot! It took half a bag of treats but he finally learned he can go up and down them if he hopped just right. Once inside he made himself right at home on my couch! My kitty Knuckles was a bit confused by the bouncing ball of energy that gave her sloppy kisses but they are bff’s now. We spent the whole weekend together getting adjusted and learning what he had a hard time with. I luckily already had plenty of rugs so he didn’t fall often! By Sunday evening he had even mastered the doggy-door. Smart little fella! I set off for work Monday morning worried about leaving him alone but he had everything he needed and could go in and outdoors no problem. When I got home from work everything seemed fine. But, when I was headed to bed that evening (upstairs) I discovered little Riley somehow got all the way up my steep staircase and back down! I knew this because…. All the cat food was gone, the litter box was cleaned out and not by me (gross I know) and he had even left a surprise for me right beside the litter box. Needless to say, I have now invested in a doggy gate haha.
Stay tuned for Riley’s adventures over the next few days!!
